The challenge: Create two characters based on chess pieces, one inspired by life, and the other, by death.
Our concepts: During the show, both of us immediately starting getting ideas. I wanted to swap the colors and their connotations, making my white chess piece "death" and my black one "life". I created the White Queen who is a twisted leader and rules over all the evil creatures in her kingdom. My Black Pawn is a humble blacksmith who forged a magnificent piece of armor to protect his family. When they were taken from him, he rose from his poor beginnings and became a fierce warrior.
Seth also felt skeleton inspired, created a dark and corrupt king. The Black King has been in power so long that it has withered away at him and left his impurities exposed. The king once had the trust of his knights and the centaur people that would fight in his kingdom. When his corruption pushed them away, he lured the most noble of the centaur knights into trusting him; a mistake that will cost the knight dearly.
