Beyond the Expanse, 9.11

2 DAYS UNTIL FACE OFF!!
With all the excitement from my #30DayHalloweenChallenge, we weren't able to finish posting our sketches from Season 9. So now counting down to Season 10, we are bringing you the last few looks we had sketched out. Can't wait until Wednesday for the latest challenge!

The challenge:
With inspiration from the show The Expanse, create a human that has evolved to adapt to an environment that has been affected by a catastrophic event

Our concepts: In the wake of a large volcanic eruption, the planet suffered major environmental changes: decreased sunlight from ash in the air, increased temperature on a global scale, and limited oxygen from the death of plant life. After most of humanity died off, a few strong humans survived and began to adapt to their new climate. Skin cells took on more melanin to stay cool, eyes became wider to take in more light in a darker world, ears enlarged to release heat, and tendrils grew from the back of the head that secrete mucous to stay cool. This mucous attracts white hair-like bacteria called Nautilia profundicola that help regulate body temperature.
Seth created a reptillian humanoid species that evolved in the wake of the sun absorbing Mercury and closing in on Venus. With the star closer to the planet, the oceans evaporated and water became a scarce resource. The planet became a barren wasteland of sand and canyons. With scorching days and frigid nights, this new species developed highly calcified skin that started to scale over and harden for defense. Their bodies adapted to be cold blooded and heat-seeking pits developed in their sinus region to help them locate food sources under the sand.
